A new day, A new week, and a new month, and time to smack myself in the face!
I am sooooo guilty of this.
Even though I’ve seen it talked about online since forever…and I’ve talked about it on this blog myself…shame on me.
Recap: Your avatar is your ideal customer, and who All your marketing should be targeted to.
I think the first time I heard about the importance of this was a story legendary internet marketer Frank Kern told about an avatar of his called Bob who he had pictured in his mind, even down to his brown shoes.
One-day Frank was giving an online marketing seminar in Florida, and after he had spoken, Bob complete with brown shoes, came up to Frank and said. “I am Bob…”
Frank was duly shocked.
But that’s not the end of the story.
And this goes to illustrate how much recycled “stuff” we see online.
Because some time later at another seminar, Frank was in the audience this time, and someone else was speaking about this internet marketer who had an avatar called Bob, and how Bob had walked up to the stage afterwards etc etc..
You think I would know who my avatar is if I can recall this story.
So the aim of this post is to slap myself in the face and remind myself of who my avatar is.
He is Dave.
And this is Dave….
Dave Banks is a white middle class male.
He’s 39. He lives in a Boston Massachusetts.
He’s been married to a nurse Heather for 15 years. They have a girl and a boy. Dave drives an 8 year old Volvo. He’s a bit overweight and wants to lose 20 pounds. He loves bowling and the movies and lives for the weekend.
He works in admin for an insurance firm and has come to despise it. He’s sick of the commute and he’s sick of his job.
He reads about Business Opportunities to be made online, and knows he is smart enough to make the money he sees others making.
His dream is to take his wife and kids on an extended vacation. He’s set aside a room in his house which is going to be his home office. He can picture working there, the hours he chooses.
But Dave feels frustrated. He has tried a few courses, and even though he feels he is above average intelligence, he can’t to seem make this online thing work.
His wife is now getting skeptical and is worrying that Dave will lose his job if he doesn’t stop dreaming and bring himself down to Earth.
Dave is embarrassed about the money he has spent with little to show for it, and now wants a mentor who will take him by the hand and show him to the promised land.
Hence forth, the aim of all of my content is to reach out to Dave and,
INSPIRE, EDUCATE or BE VULNERABLE; to lead Dave to the promised land.
Why be vulnerable? I hear you say.
Because it shows you are human. It demonstrates you are authentic. It shows you also struggle. It shows you are not only interested in grabbing $100 out of Dave’s wallet and leaving him high and dry.
So why did I go off track?
I think it’s my URL. I was speaking to a fellow marketer 6 months ago and we were talking about lead magnets and I asked him for suggestions.
He look at my URL and said .. as you’re a blogger then it would be “Best WordPress Plugins” “On Page SEO Optimization” “How to Structure your Blogposts”
So I started reading some great blogs like Ramsay’s blogtyrant.com and problogger.net and went completely off track.
It’s not till I spoke to another online entrepreneur, my buddy Zach Crawford, who told me “People who read these blogs are not your target audience. Knowing about blogging and SEO are marketing methods. They are not your target audience. Your target audience are people who are interested in Network Marketing and MLM.”
Blogging and SEO are marketing methods. It not my niche.
Light bulb moment.
So now I’m back on track and moving to my goal to build my list up.
Have you found clarity?
Do you feel like you have to talk like a 7 figure internet marketer to make this thing work aka fake it till you make it?
I encourage you to lay it out raw and blog your journey to 6 figures like me..
