The Clickbank Marketplace. What can I say? I’m sitting here wondering how many rookie Internet Marketers have seen big dollar signs in their eyes as they read about the 70% commissions and the fact that someone will pay for a “downloadable product” when all the information they need is available for free on other parts of the internet.
I had those same stars. I thought it was too good to be true – just knock up a web site and the punters will come in, desperate to buy my eBook. But will they? Is it a scam? I surfed You Tube and that’s what countless videos told me.
Now, Clickbank has come leaps and bounds in the last couple of years, moving their Clickbank products away from somewhat shady push button riches products to a legitimate repository of information.
So what is the best way to make money from Clickbank? To be honest I’m not sure, but there are two main methods.
So the first is CPV and PPV advertising. Now, the big boys make a lot of money doing this. It’s basically the type of ad you’ll see if your surfing around on the web in a box somewhere to the bottom right of your screen. They also use re targeting so the ad appears to follow you round the internet if you’ve expressed an interest in it at some point. These big boys spend large sums of money on advertising to secure even larger profits. It’s not for the faint hearted and it’s not my favourite business model.
The second and my preference is the model where you build a relationship with your customer and provide them with great information and tips, and carefully market to them. The big down side to this is if you don’t know a thing about the product and you’re up against people who are potentially passionate about the subject. Could I sell Scrapbooking products to avid scrapbooking fans? Probably not.
So if I want to be a Clickbank affiliate, how do I approach it? Answer: Think of yourself as a reporter. If you’ve signed up to my eBook and gone through the free course, you’ll see I created a demonstration blog based around green products. I chose this because it is going to be a near future case study of mine. There is a whole section on Clickbank about green products with a number of good products with a high gravity. For the uninitiated – gravity is a metric used by Clickbank that tells you how many affiliates are currently promoting the product.
So what I recommend you do, is head over to Clickbank and look at the categories and see if there is something that interests you. If there isn’t then maybe look at another way of making money online. Now, assuming you have found a category, have a surf around the web and see what other people are doing.
There is a great saying from Brian Tracy which says that “Success leaves tracks” – If you want to be a big success in any area, find out what other successful people in that area are doing, and do the same things, until you get the same results.
Next step is to build a cash pulling blog, create a free downloadable eBook or a video series, or both to offer to prospective customers in exchange for their email address to build your list. Then provide great information and market products to them.
So, if you think this is something you would like to do, then to fast track the whole process I’m going to recommend you check out Affilorama to give you top notch training to be a Clickbank Affiliate. I don’t recommend courses I haven’t used personally so take it from me when I say these guys are good, and the course is always evolving as the web matures. Affilorama are based in Christchurch, New Zealand, and its creator Mark Ling can often be found in the top 5 affiliates in big web promotions – so you’re in good hands.
