If you’re new to Making Money Online, or you’ve had little success, then this mini “how to start affiliate marketing” guide will help you.
Many people try affiliate marketing and most do it horribly wrong. This is often as a result of them following advice from people how have never had affiliate marketing success themselves.
I can’t remember how many times I’ve read the same regurgitated advice about how easy it is to sell Clickbank and Amazon products as an affiliate.
The truth is that selling as an affiliate is not that easy as people make out and it takes work.
The losers approach is to throw an affiliate link at someone in a spammy email, or a spammy Instagram account – I’m sure you’ve seen them. And the fact is, they don’t make such money.
On that subject I recommend that you don’t subscribe to any online marketer who just throws affiliate links at you each and every day.
As yourself what value are they brining to your life..buy this..no buy this..only follow those who have a true interest in helping you grow as a person 😉
So now let’s cover what is affiliate marketing and how does it work
Affiliate marketing is the process when you sell a product for a company, and by doing so, receive a commission for your efforts.
In the world of online marketing a few factors come into play when considering which business to promote
• The percentage of the sale price you receive.
• Whether you will be compensated if the same person purchases another product from this company or if they have a cookie lifetime.
Whichever company you choose; they will give you a link that identifies you as the affiliate if someone purchases from you.
When someone clicks on your link, a cookie which is a very small file is downloaded onto their computer, so if they click on some other affiliate’s link, it remembers that you were the original affiliate and you should get the commission up until the cookie life time as been reached
To give examples of this
Amazon has an affiliate program called Amazon Associates where you can sell their products on your website. However, the percentage they give you is quite small, ranging from 4% – 8.5% based on the volume of products you sell in the month. When a new month starts, you go back to 4%.
The cookie lifetime is online 24 hours. So if someone goes through your link but decides to purchase the next day, you will get no commission.
For this reason, I recommend any serious internet entrepreneur should promote high ticket affiliate programs. These give you the following advantages.
• The product prices are higher so you receive higher commissions.
• The percentages are higher which again leads to higher commissions.
• There is no cookie expiry time so you receive a commission for life if that person buys more products.
Furthermore, the company I promote has backend products priced even higher so I receive even higher commissions.
So that’s the mechanics of affiliate marketing. Let’s now cover how you can have affiliate marketing success.
Why do so many people fail at affiliate marketing?
In a nutshell, it’s a lack of trust.
As I mentioned above, we all get bombarded by spammy affiliate links, whether it’s from emails, Facebook or Instagram – which don’t work.
I am now going to show you how you can build that trust and become the go to guy or girl for whatever you plan to sell.
How to become an affiliate marketer and crush it.
The first thing to keep in your mind at all times is – Why should someone buy from me and not someone else.
Step 1. Locate an offer which you totally believe in. It could be a company that resonates with you or it could be a marketing tool which you love using. E.g. Aweber or Click Funnels.
Step 2. Buy that product if you haven’t already. The majority of affiliate are only out there to make a quick buck. By purchasing it yourself, you are practising what you preach.
Step 3. Write articles about that product or even better, make videos. These articles and videos should build trust.
These articles should be one of these two types
- A review article / video. You can say something along the lines of – I bought this product and here are my experiences. Here are the pros and cons.
By talking about the flaws in the product you make the review sound more authentic.
- Or Write an article about a problem that exists, and introduce the product you’re promoting as the solution.
As an example. I wrote an article about the importance of having an autoresponder to make money online, and promoted Aweber as the best product to do this.
Step 4. (KILLER TIP) Offer a bonus that complements the product your selling.
If you were promoting a course on Creating YouTube videos and you had knowledge of ranking videos in YouTube, you could put together a course on YoutUbe ranking and offer it as a bonus.
If you were selling juicers you could put to get a 10 juice recipe book to go with it.
If you were selling a High Ticket Coaching Program, you could sell a consultancy session as a bonus, where you get on a Skype call with them for 1 hour.
So how do you position all this?
When you’re starting out, you don’t need Leadpages – Just use a page of your blog.
• A video post will work best as it builds trust.
• Create a simple message that explains all about the product. What are the benefits? How will it help them?
• Explain why they need it and why it’s better than a competing product on the market.
• Explain why you like it
• Give proof of your results, or proof of someone else results if you don’t have any yet.
• Use a deadline so they buy from you as soon as possible.
• You deal should be better than anyone else’s
If you have a blog, then you can market tools that every blogger needs, such as
Pinchofyum.com is a food blog but the majority of their income comes from selling hosting packages and tools to aspiring food bloggers. – not selling recipes
James Schramko from superfastbusiness.com does a good job of reviewing product and offering bonuses to go with them.
I hope these 4 affiliate marketing success tips have shown you the right way to sell affiliate products.
