Want to know how to create the life you want?
I don’t know about you, but I’m always hearing phrases like “Design the life you want” or “You Only Live Once – YOLO”.
If I’m not hearing this, I’m hearing stories about how most people won’t be able to afford to retire.
Meanwhile I hear, the millennials at the other end of the spectrum can’t afford to get on the housing ladder and are instead spending their money now, on designer avocado and egg toasted sandwiches for breakfast!
In the old days it was a lot harder to be an entrepreneur…
You needed to raise investment capital to buy or rent a building, money to have inventory to sell, and money to employee staff.
You can still do this of course, and many people are wildly successful by purchasing franchises. But the startup costs are massively expensive.
In the new world with the dawn of the internet age, we have the opportunity where we can set up a business for peanuts where we don’t need inventory, and we can employ skilled people from countries like the Philippines for a fraction of the cost of local people.
Now I don’t advocate anyone to throw in their day job and build an online business – especially if you have dependents, though I know people who have.
Actually I think its best if you don’t throw in the day job, because you will learn the discipline to build your online business with the limited time you’ve got.
If you want to create the life you want, then I invite you to join me on my journey…
Here are my tips to live the life you want
First I need to shatter the lottery mindset you might have. There is simply no way to make a vast amount of money overnight unless you
A. Win the lottery
B. Rob a bank
C. Inherit a load of money from a rich relative
I take it none of these are likely to happen to you anytime soon and I hope you’re not thinking of option B.
So work is involved, sometimes hard work. In the beginning it going to be hard having to work when you could be watching the latest Netflix show.
But when you work for yourself as an online entrepreneur you work when you want to.
I always strive to blog every day. I always strive to read every day to become a leader.
But because we can choose when we want to work, we don’t have to face the daily commute. We can run our business from beautiful Positano, Italy for example.
Let’s talk more about the rewards…
We are marketing what we believe in and getting paid in a month what we would get paid in a year in a normal office job.
We can spend more time with our loved ones or travel more.
All without the stress of having a boss. Without having to get caught up in petty office politics, and without the daily commute.
Here is my recipe to create the lifestyle you want
1. At any one point on this planet, someone is online looking to buy whatever it is you have to sell. ..
So why not build a 24 x 7 Online sales machine that’s making money while you sleep?
You can do this by publishing blog posts like this one, that attracts new leads every day.
And you can make use of an autoresponder to capture peoples email addresses to market uor products to.
If you’ve read the excellent 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris you’ll know about escaping the 9 to 5 and trading hours of your life for money.
When you have an online business, it’s immensely satisfying to see commission checks in your inbox when you wake up in the morning, knowing you haven’t had to commute for an hour and sat in a cubicle for a further 8 hours.
2. You need to put in the time now to reap the rewards later.
For example, a blog post takes me about 2 – 3 hours to write. I could be watching the already mentioned Netflix in this time.
But the blog post is going to work for me for the years, pull in potential customers, whereas the tv show gave me 2 hours’ worth of entertainment.
In the beginning you must put in the effort by following a daily routine, and be determined to build it despite the drawbacks which will surely come your way.
You will encounter technical issues, which so many people give as their reason for not building an online business. Its ridiculous, everything you possibly need to learn is on YouTube. If you want someone else to do it you can hire someone for the price of a Starbucks coffee in another country to do it for you.
You have to learn to be patient and avoid burnout. In this blog, I’ve talked many times about how building an online business is like getting your body into shape. Its takes daily steps of persistent action to reach your goals. That’s why there are so many home throughout the world with discarded pieces of gym equipment under beds!
Accept you won’t be rich next month. If you’re building a blog, Google isn’t going to trust you to rank your articles for the first 6 months. – but it will happen.
That’s how I built this blog – small steps of persistent daily action.
3. You must decide on your system and stick to it. There are 101 ways to make money online, but people jump from opportunity to opportunity because they haven’t given the first one enough time, and they think the next one will make them richer in less time. I’m guilty too.
Whatever the opportunity is, you are going to have to be excited about it, because if you don’t like it you’ll be like a slippery snake oil salesman, and no one will buy from you.
Hopefully this article has inspired you to become one of the New Rich as Tim Ferris says, and to use the internet to create the life you want.
