This is a concept that took me a while to appreciate.
When you start out on your make money online journey and you see all the flashy sales pages and landing pages, you kind of think these people have always been experts.
I guess it’s like when I go to the beach and see people kiteboarding. I never see anyone who looks like a beginner. They seem to jump on their board and zoom into the distant waters of the ocean.
But if you take a given online expert and drill deeper into their story, you will find that they struggled, and struggled like hell to get where they are at. They happened to be the 5% that said “no” I will figure out to make money online.
You will also discover that they move in circles which is defined by their income.
You will also discover that they have mentors which is also defined by their income level.
And you will also that they also buy online courses which again are defined by their income levels and teach what they learn to those who move in circles below them.
Which brings me nicely to the title of this post ‘readers are leaders’.
All the successful people you see online are buying courses and updating their knowledge. They are then either applying it to their own companies, or teaching it to their followers, or both.
There is not a point when they are saying they know everything.
I guess the “Readers are Leaders” saying pre-dates the internet, so to be clear, I’m talking about these 6 sources of content you can read to improve your business.
6 Top Content Sources for bloggers
- Listening to podcasts
- Listening to audio books
- Reading eBooks
- Reading blog posts
- Watching YouTube videos
- Purchasing courses specific to your niche.
After you learn, you can teach what you have learnt
When I have finished a book, you will see a book review on this blog.
When I have gone through the courses, I can grow my business by implementing what i have learnt as well as teaching my take on what I have learnt to my blog readers.
As I am going through this process, I am keeping my brain constantly engaged and constantly alert for my primary purpose – solving problems.
What are the other benefits from reading?
You can learn to be a better communicator. If you are reading or listening to leaders in your niche then because they have found success online, then they know what the problems are that people have which you can in turn learn.
You will also learn how to speak to your niche. If you say “Yo dude” to a baby boomer there’s a good chance you’re going to turn them off you quickly..
You can learn to be a better writer. I’m always pawing over the grammar on my blog and my sentence structure.
Did you know that story telling is the best way to communicate with your followers. We’re hardwired to listen to stories, and in many cultures, story telling is how knowledge is passed down to the next generations. This is why i recommend you also read, to give you ideas for stories in your content.
I hope you realize that you need to keep investing in your reading and education to keep ahead in this game.
As you will see on this blog, i am now producing a lot of content, because that’s what successful people in my niche do.
